K9 Turf Premier Artificial Grass Installation – Felixstowe Border Force Dog Compounds
Artificial Turf for Dog Runs at Felixstowe Border Force
We were delighted to complete this specialised installation of artificial turf for dog runs at the Felixstowe Border Force Dog Compounds, using our flagship K9 Turf® Premier with Knitted Rapid Flow Backing.
Project Overview
The Border Force team at Felixstowe required a hard-wearing, hygienic surface able to cope with intensive daily use by working dogs in a busy operational setting. Existing surfaces struggled with drainage and wear, leading to increased maintenance and reduced usability of the dog compounds during wet periods.
After assessing the site, we designed a complete surface solution focused on exceptional durability, rapid drainage, and long-term performance. An air grid system was incorporated between the K9 Turf and the base to elevate the surface, significantly improving ease of cleaning. This artificial turf for dog runs was specified to meet the demands of continuous professional use while remaining straightforward to maintain to a high hygienic standard.
The Solution
We installed K9 Turf Premier across the dog compounds, delivering a high-performance artificial turf for dog runs surface engineered for intensive working-dog environments.
Key Features of This Installation:
- Premium Product: K9 Turf® Premier – a high-performance, knitted artificial grass specifically designed for pet owners and working dogs.
- Advanced Drainage: Knitted Rapid Flow Backing delivering 800% improved drainage capacity compared to standard turf. Water disappears quickly, even after heavy rain.
- Air Grid System: Fitted between the turf and base to elevate the surface, making cleaning faster and more effective.
- Base Preparation: A solid, free-draining foundation using crushed limestone and grano for maximum stability and longevity.
- Professional Installation: Full groundworks, including excavation, weed membrane, and precise fitting around existing structures and borders.
- Warranty: Backed by a 15-year UV stability warranty.
Why K9 Turf Premier is the Best Artificial Grass for Dogs
This turf was chosen for its exceptional performance qualities:
- 100% safe for dogs — urine passes straight through without staining or lingering odours
- Soft, realistic feel with excellent resilience against heavy paw traffic
- Easy to clean and maintain

Project Result
The Felixstowe compounds now have a reliable, high-performance surface that stands up to the rigorous daily routine of Border Force working dogs. The combination of K9 Turf Premier and the air grid system has eliminated previous drainage problems, made cleaning significantly easier, improved overall hygiene, and created a consistently usable outdoor area that supports operational efficiency in all weather.

Advanced Drainage Technology That Truly Sets Us Apart
Most standard artificial grass uses basic punched holes that quickly become clogged. This causes dog urine to pool, bacteria to multiply, and unpleasant odours to develop within weeks.
K9 Turf Premier features our exclusive Knitted RapidFlow Backing — an advanced drainage system that mimics natural soil permeability. Liquids pass straight through in seconds. Independent lab testing shows drainage rates up to 800% faster than conventional backings.
The result? No puddles, no lingering smells, and no muddy paw prints tracked indoors.
