A dog food specialist from Pure Pet Food has revealed the there are certain food items which could be dangerous if your dog eats them. They can not only cause canine problems, but lead to toilet issues, heart problems, vomitting, liver failure, and even death.
According to a spokesperson for Pure Pet Food, a large number of pet owners allow their dogs to lick their plates, give them leftovers and some human food as a treat quite often which they shouldn’t.
Here’s a list of 11 human foods you should not give to your dogs and why:
1. Chocolate
Most of us know that chocolate isn’t for dogs. Particularly the dark one as it is more dangerous than the milkier one. Chocolate contains theobromine and methylxanthines which could lead to excessive urination, diarrhoea, vomitting, panting, and thirst in canines.
Sever signs could be seizures, abnormal heartbeat, and even death.
2. Alcohol
Alcohol has the same effect as chocolate. It could lead to abnormal blood acidity, decrease coordination and even lead to coma. It causes depression of the central nervous system. So, never let you pets eat things which contain toxic alcohol.
3. Grapes and Raisins
Scientists are unsure as to what the particualr substance is, but have found out that grapes and raisins contain a toxic element for animals. They can cause kidney failure in dogs.
4. Cheese
High calorie and high fat foods are damaging for pets too as they are for humans when they are eaten too much. It leads to weight gain that could become problematic. Most of the cheeses are quite salty, so excessive intake leads to heart disease or stroke in canines.

5. Ready Meals
Like humans, excessive salt is harmful for dogs too. It could lead to high blood pressure, increased thirst, and even sodium poisoning.
So, do not let them lick your plate after you had processed snacks which contain high amounts of salt or a ready meal.
6. Onion
Onions, whether cooked or raw, contain certain chemicals that could reduce red blood cells in dogs. It also hinders the efficiency of red blood cells carrying oxygen to rest of the body which leads to further health issues.
7. Nuts
Nuts like almonds, cashwers and pistachios are full of fats and oils. These can lead to vomitting, diarrheoa, and pancreatitis in dogs. Other nuts, like macadamias can cause depression, hypothermia, tremors and weakness.
8. Xylitol
A sweetner, Xylitol is used in chewing gum, baked desserts, and even toothpaste. It can lead to insulin realese in dogs and leads to liver failure eventually. Do not brush you dog’s teeth unless you have a dog friendly tootpaste.
9. Coffee & Tea
Consuming large amounts of these beverages can be life-threatening for your dog. A sip or two isn’t hamrful.
10. Garlic
Garlic, both raw or cooked, can affect your dogs health. It contains chemicals which are known to damage red blood cells in dogs like onions.
11. Olive Oil
As oils are high in fat and calories, it can lead to harmful weight gain in event of excessive consumtpion. It also leads to digestive problems such as diarrhoea and vomittng.
